Overview
Dr. N. Dhatchana Moorthy, M.Pharm., Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at C. L. Baid Mehta College of Pharmacy, Chennai, where he has been serving since December 2024. He brings over 25 years of extensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry, R&D, translational research, and academia, with expertise in drug discovery, cancer biology, biotherapeutics, gene therapy, and precision medicine.
Before transitioning to academia full-time, Dr. Moorthy developed a comprehensive industrial research career within leading pharmaceutical and biotech companies. His work has encompassed small-molecule drug discovery, peptide therapeutics, biomarker research, AI-driven translational medicine, and digital innovations in pharmaceuticals. He has held senior scientific and leadership positions, contributing to programs in oncology, liver diseases, epigenetics, and targeted therapies, with experience from early discovery through preclinical and IND-enabling studies. His core scientific expertise includes molecular and cell biology, transcriptomics, assay development, recombinant protein expression, gene delivery systems, xenograft studies, and AI/ML-guided biomarker identification.
Dr. Moorthy earned his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Science and Biochemistry from the University of Madras and received the Prof. K. Radha Shanmugasundaram Endowment Gold Medal for the best Ph.D. thesis. He completed his M.Pharm. in Pharmaceutical Sciences with a specialization in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from IIT BHU, where he graduated as the university topper, and his B.Pharm. from The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, with first-class and distinction.
He has authored 22 peer-reviewed publications with a combined journal impact factor of approximately 50 and more than 290 citations. He is also a co-inventor of patents related to targeted fusion proteins in cancer therapy. An active mentor, researcher, and invited speaker, Dr. Moorthy is dedicated to enhancing pharmaceutical education by integrating industry insights, research rigor, and emerging technologies to prepare students for careers in modern drug discovery and development.
