Overview

Dr. S. Amuthalakshmi is an experienced academician and researcher with over 19 years of teaching and research experience in pharmaceutical sciences, particularly in medicinal chemistry, drug design, and pharmaceutical analysis. She has served in reputed pharmacy institutions across India, currently working as an Associate Professor at C.L. Baid Metha College of Pharmacy, Chennai since August 2014.

She possesses a strong academic foundation in pharmaceutical sciences with progressive specialization in medicinal chemistry and research. She earned her Ph.D. in Pharmacy (Full-Time) from Annamalai University, India (2010–2014), where she focused on advanced pharmaceutical research and scholarly investigations.

Earlier, she completed her Master of Pharmacy (M.Pharm) in Medicinal Chemistry with First Class from M.S. University of Baroda, India (2002–2004), gaining strong expertise in drug design, synthesis, and analytical techniques.

She began her professional academic journey with a Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) degree, graduating with First Class from Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, India (1995–1999), which provided a comprehensive foundation in pharmaceutical sciences.

Throughout her career, she has taught a wide range of subjects including Medicinal chemistry, Synthetic organic chemistry, Pharmaceutical Inorganic Chemistry, Natural product chemistry, Physicochemical principles, Molecular modeling, Computer Aided Drug Design and drug design to B.Pharm, M.Pharm, and Pharm.D students. She has also guided numerous undergraduate and postgraduate research projects and actively contributes to curriculum development, academic evaluation, and research mentoring.Her research focuses on rational drug design, QSAR studies, molecular modeling, and the development of novel therapeutic agents for diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and diabetes. She has published multiple research and review articles in national and international journals, received a research grant from The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, and holds an Indian patent.In addition to teaching and research, she actively participates in academic administration, peer review of scientific manuscripts, conference organization, and scholarly activities, contributing significantly to pharmaceutical education and research advancement. Received a Theme Based Research (TBR) Grant for April-June 2024 from The TNMGR Medical university by July 2024 in the title of “AI-Driven Virtual Screening: Uncovering novel poly pharmacological ligands targeting Alzheimer’s disease via Flavone-acridine/piperidine scaffolds” for 2 Lakh rupees.
