Overview
Dr. T. Purushoth Prabhu is a Professor and Head of the Department of Pharmacognosy at C. L. Baid Metha College of Pharmacy, Chennai, with over 21 years of experience spanning academia, research, industry, and administration in pharmaceutical sciences.
He teaches undergraduate and postgraduate pharmacy students, focusing on Pharmacognosy, Phytochemistry, Herbal Drug Technology, Biostatistics, and Research Methodology, integrating theoretical knowledge with research and practical applications.
Dr. Prabhu holds a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University (Distinction), an M.Pharm in Pharmacognosy from Madras Medical College (Distinction), a B.Pharm, along with an MBA in Human Resources and a BGL (LLB), reflecting a multidisciplinary academic background.
His research focuses on medicinal plant phytochemistry, herbal drug standardization, nano-formulations, and AYUSH-based drug development. He has published extensively in national and international peer-reviewed journals, authored multiple textbooks and practical manuals, contributed book chapters, and holds two granted patents in the area of nano-formulations.
He has actively contributed to academic research through 34 undergraduate projects, 8 commercial projects, and serves as a Ph.D. Co-Guide and Doctoral Advisory Committee member for multiple scholars. He has also undertaken a funded research project supported by The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University.
Dr. Prabhu has presented his research at national and international conferences, with a total of 17 presentations (7 oral and 10 poster presentations), including contributions by project students.
In addition to teaching and research, he has significant administrative and professional experience. He has been serving as a Placement Officer since 2008, facilitating placements for nearly 1,500 students, and has held key roles in IQAC, examination systems, student coordination, and institutional development.
He has delivered expert lectures and training programs on research methodology, biostatistics, intellectual property rights, chromatography, and traditional medicine, and serves as a reviewer for journals published by Elsevier, Bentham Science, Medknow, and ScienceDirect.
Dr. Prabhu is a life member of PCI, APTI, IPA, and IPGA, and has received several academic recognitions including GATE qualification, NPTEL certification (IIT Madras), best poster awards, and academic ranks during his studies.His combined expertise in education, research, innovation, and academic leadership positions him as a committed contributor to pharmaceutical sciences and healthcare advancement. He has hands-on industrial experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing and quality systems, having worked at Aeon Therapeutics Pvt. Ltd. for 8 months where he was involved in the production of dosage forms such as tablets, capsules, and syrups, gained exposure to Quality Control operations, inventory and store management, and developed an understanding of GMP practices and industrial workflow. He also possesses 2 years and 9 months of experience in pharmaceutical sales and marketing with reputed organizations including Indi Pharma, USV Pharma, and GSK Pharma, where he was engaged in promoting pharmaceutical products and building professional relationships within the healthcare sector. In addition, through executive training and professional engagement, he has interacted with government officials, public sector professionals, entrepreneurs, industry stakeholders, and healthcare professionals, integrating academic knowledge with practical industry insights and focusing on skill development, regulatory awareness, and applied research. He has held several key academic and administrative roles, serving as Nodal Officer, IQAC Cell Committee Member, and Exam Cell In-Charge since 2024, Student Coordinator since 2022, Chief Superintendent for UG and Pharm.D University Examinations from 2013 to 2024, Assistant Chief Superintendent from 2008 to 2013, and has been actively contributing as Placement Officer, Sports In-Charge, and Co-curricular Activities Coordinator since 2008.

Dr. T. Purushoth Prabhu has made significant academic contributions through 7 textbooks and practical manuals and 3 book chapters in the areas of Pharmacognosy, Biostatistics, Herbal Drug Technology, and AYUSH research.
His prominent works include Biostatistics and Research Methodology (2023), Text Book of Social and Preventive Pharmacy (2025), and Medicinal Plant Biotechnology (2025). He has also developed practice-oriented manuals for B.Pharm and Pharm.D programs, widely used for laboratory training and academic instruction.
His book chapters focus on natural products, traditional medicine, and vector control, reflecting his research strength in herbal drug development and public health relevance.
